Here is a great site for free and legal music downloading! It is free and legal through a Creative Commons license and there are over 7,000 artists with over 60,000 albums available for downloading! The music can be downloaded to your computer and imported directly to your choice of music player (iTunes, Windows Media, etc.).

social media influences buying patterns

an article from mashable ran a study that concluded that the social media is influencing what we buy. The article states, “It conclusively proves that as we thought, social media is now directly impacting the way we buy products and services.” Now that anyone can get online and post comments on blogs or about products or services, it is changing the way people are buying. They are considering what other people, most likely strangers, are saying before they make a purchase. This has become so popular that now we can consider everyone that is online an influencer because they will most likely influence someone in making a decision.

So this social media influence is becoming default for consumers. They are looking for comments naturally now. Also, companies need to be open and honest because if they are not, people can go out and publish negative comments which would probably result in lower business sales.

Reframe It

There is a new site out that allows users to annotate the web. Reframe It, provides users with the ability to highlight passages on webpages and add your thoughts on the side. This gives Internet browsers more control over the content they are reading because they can share their opinion with others and go back and search what they have commented on. You have to download the plug in for the site, but once you do, you can read other people’s comments and also import your contacts from Gmail, facebook and other social network sites.

What types of results do you receive with each search engine?

With google, we found pictures, wikipedia articles, and websites of fans of Tina Fey. With Technorati, we found blogs wiht opinions. The main differences are with Technorati, it is more opinions about what people think of her where as google is more about what they know about her; the factual information.

How current are the results in the live search/web search?

The earliest post on the live web search was 10 minutes ago. For google, we don’t have an exact way of knowing when it was last updated but we went into the top hit (wikipedia) and searched for when it was updated last. The website indicated that it was updated on Oct. 1st at 19 hours so it must have been updated by someone that is ahead of our time. Basically, the results are pretty current.

What type of engine do you prefer for the current events topic?

We would prefer the web search rather than the live search when searching for current events because the live search is not going to provide as many facts as the web search.

What type of engine do you prefer for the esoteric topic?

We would prefer the web search for this type of topic because it again is more factual. If we were looking for other’s opinions about certain topics, we would like to read the blogs because they are factual but opinionated as well.

We were given ask.com and google.com for our assignment of comparing images and videos.

Both websites offer a broad amount of search appendages. The difference between the two sites is when you complete a search. We typed in “Latest scientific discovery” and both sites yielded different results. When you get more specific in your search, the number of hits gets smaller and the top searches become more similar.

Which site gives you more relevant results? We searched “Haunted houses” in the image section of google and ask. Google had a lot more pictures (1,490,000 compared to 22,600). At the beginning of the search, there were more houses but when we clicked to page 5, skulls and pumpkins started coming up.

Which site has better navigation? Google can only sort by image size where ask allows you to search by file type, image size, and colors. Ask also has a side bar to get more specific with your search.

Do the sites allow for advance searching/filtering? Both sites allow for advanced searching and filtering.

Do the sites allow for the saving and compiling of search results? You can save the image to your desktop but we did not find a way for saving on the website. Also, we didn’t find a way to compile the images.

Which site do you prefer? We thought Google was more versatile and provided more results but we thought that Ask.com was more user friendly and provided more specific results in our search.

Comparing google.com and blinkx.com. We chose the Dove makeup commercial.

Which site gives you more relevant results? Google video gave us the commercial we were looking for first. Blinkx did not. Google seems to be more relevant when providing information about our search.
Which site has better navigation? We thought that google was easier to navigate because of the layout of the site. We felt that it was easier to use and more specific to our searches.
Do the sites allow for the saving or compiling of search results? google does not offer the option of saving or compiling of the videos but blinkx allows users to create a playlist by adding videos and viewing them later.
Which site do you prefer? We think we like google better because it is user friendly. We did think the video playlist was pretty cool though!

we’re working on a project for my entrepreneurship class that involves marketing for a company called Jamendo. Jamendo.com is a website where artists can go and upload their music for fans/new listeners to download their work for free. Right now, the website is basically all European artists and our job is to market it to American listeners and musicians. Check out the site and see if you like any of the music you hear! Downloading does not take long at all and all of the music on the site is free!

youtube’s new feature

I think it was smart for youtube to offer its viewers/users new options. Youtube is obviously the most popular website for uploading videos but there are other competitors out there. Youtube’s competitors were offering the option of inputing information for the video while it was uploading. Youtube did not offer users this feature which upset them. I feel like our country has had a strong value on time saving and convinence and this new feature gives users the ability to save time by inputting information while uploading the video.

how businesses can benefit from social networking

I read an article from digg.com titled How Businesses can Benefit from Social Networking. Jonathan Yarmis, an analyst at AMR Research, says that businesses need to figure out what conversations are meaningful and impact will your business. He describes Comcast as doing a good job by using Twitter. Some companies push their employees into using Facebook or Twitter but are the employees seeing benefits for their company or just for their own good? I feel like social networking for the business world should not be on Facebook because that site is more for fun and college students rather than connecting with former colleagues.

I signed up for LinkedIn.com which seems to be a more professional social networking site. Businesses should utilize this site more. The site is growing at a huge rate.

I read an article from TechCrunch about Flux, a new social networking site. The article talks about how MTV has officially signed on for the rest of the Social Project they had not owned already. The site states “Flux is an open platform that allows websites and bloggers to add community tools to their sites. Parent company SocialProject (formerly TagWorld) joined with Viacom to create Flux.”

I tried going to the site to sign up and get started, but the site seems to be down. Will edit later when I can sign on!
